Typically each admitted student is funded through either a teaching assistantship or, less often, a research assistantship. The stipend for the nine-month academic year is about $24,820 and comes with a tuition/curriculum fee waiver and health benefits. The department is currently funding incoming students who don't have alternative forms of summer funding for two summers with fellowships (no work required) of $3000/summer. There are also some opportunities to apply for summer teaching through the department.

The University requires that international students take the TOEFL (or IELTS) and achieve a score above 80 unless they have a master’s degree from a university in the United States. The Department of Communication prefers, but does not require, a TOEFL score above 95.
The minimum IELTS Academic combined score is 6.5, although many graduate programs expect higher scores for admission. IELTS scores are valid for two years from anticipated date of entrance. Please contact the test center where you took IELTS and request that your test scores be transmitted to our e-download account. All IELTS test centers worldwide are able to transmit your score results to our institution.
