For those admitted, the department normally provides teaching assistantships or non-teaching fellowships that include a full-tuition scholarship, medical insurance, free public transportation, and a stipend for teaching services or full-time research. Fully funded doctoral first-year students (including students without an M.A. in hand) who will have completed their first year of full-time doctoral study in residence by the start of the fellowship and who will have passed their departmental PED by the end of their second semester in residence are eligible to apply for six departmental $3,000 summer research support grants.
